"Stretch Under Strain" : Nick Fusaro
Nick Fusaro (b. 1989) is a Brooklyn-based conceptual artist. His first exhibition with the gallery, Stretch Under Strain, references the technical definition of deformation, a measure of how much an object is stretched, and strain, the ratio between the deformation and the original length. Included artworks explore the strain of ideation, production, and historical baggage that are inherent to the creative process.

Inspired by the rare atmospheric natural phenomenon of the Catatumbo Lightning over the mouth of the Catatumbo River in Venezuela, this exhibition, with works in various media, painting, sculpture, photography and works on paper, alludes to humanity’s affectivity and vulnerability, and nature’s impact on all life forms — causing, at the same time, both awe and fear of destruction. The exhibition’s visual palette, mainly black, grey, white, blue and purple, reflects and invokes the sensations and images of the constant thunder over the mouth of the Venezuelan river that flows into the lake Maracaibo and that has been dubbed by the local indigenous Bari people Catatumbo = HOUSE of THUNDER. Its marshes are considered the epicenter of its nearly constant, with an average of nine-hours-a-day thunderstorm accompanied by lightning for at least 140 to 160 and up to 300 nights a year, and with flashes from 16 to 40 times per minute--. Curator-Led Exhibition Walk Thru and RECEPTION: THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 15, 6-8 PM.

"Glass Breaks" : James Nelson
James Nelson has long created drawings with graphite, charcoal, and pastel on handmade Chinese or Gampi papers. From show to show, his imagery has been either abstract or representational; in this body of work, created from 2021 to 2023, the works are abstract. As always, they display a rich variety of mark-making, from all-over fields of subtle, discreet, and careful lines to more expressionistic, bold, and emotional gestures. They are characterized by an intensity of focus which rewards slow and careful viewing.

"Knot Theory" : Lucy Soni
British artist, Lucy Soni is inspired by the idea of control versus chaos. Her compositions start as small scribbles on paper and communicate a sense of urgency. Through tracing, enlarging, repeating, and layering, Soni transfers these forms to large scale canvases. This process produces carefully balanced paintings which unite impulsive mark making and high art.
