Pardon Me RETNA

Pardon Me, shares its name with the centerpiece of the show, a larger than life triptych work on paper, lending itself as a space for meditation between two sides of an artist in struggle. Two key works are presented in this exhibition in order to emphasize a sense of duality, instigate confrontation, and allow room for dialogue.

CANDICE MADEY is thrilled to announce the gallery’s second solo exhibition with Stacy Lynn Waddell, light takes time to reach us, presenting a series of landscapes composed of layers of precious metals; a suite of Audubon bird specimens, rendered in low-relief pastiglia and silver-leafed; and a single gilded portrait. Winslow Homer’s watercolor After the Hurricane, Bahamas, in which a lone figure appears washed ashore on a beach, is an important touchstone for the new body of work.

Adam Hayes has dedicated the last ten years to investigating the various strategies through which the legacy of power is embodied, exploring monuments, sculptures, and architecture. For this occasion, he draws his references from classical portraits, which represent individuals with grandeur and majesty, thus becoming engrained in the collective conscience as epic heroes and martyrs.

GateKeeper: Daniel Nunez | Jason Pulgarin

GR gallery is pleased to reveal “Gatekeeper”, a distinctive duo exhibition of new works by Daniel Núñez and Jason Pulgarin. For their first show together, after previous individual presentations with the gallery, they have engaged in a close dialogue inspired by the complexity and the hypocrisy, the aberrations and the struggle of the artist in the contemporary art world and market in particular. The distinctive styles of Núñez  and Pulgarin, which accidentally already shared few spontaneous hints inspired by a complementary background, are now consolidated through the investigation of this socially and culturally relevant theme close to both artist. They encounter and confront each other in a discussion that resolves in the mutual accentuation of the other one artworks.

Scattering the Constant : Brianna Bass

LatchKey Gallery presents Scattering the Constant  by Brianna Bass, an exhibition of electrifying abstract paintings that highlight how color seduces and deceives the eye. Scattering the Constant runs from September 8 through October 15, 2023 at 173 Henry Street, NYC and is Bass’ first solo show with the gallery. Her works generate sensory effects full of movement and intensity that vibrate deeply from the canvas, enveloping the viewer. Utilizing the universal language of the grid, Bass explores how color interacts profoundly to beguile the eye. She investigates the complex and organizes the chaotic. Using an intersection of logic-based systems, mathematics, and color theory, Bass creates a rigorous method that has unexpected but defined conclusions.

WINGS OF DESIRE : Henry Biber, Carol Boram-Hays, Jeremiah Chechik, Jane Fire, Leslie Ford, Nana Gregory, Edward Jackson and Francie Lyshak.

WINGS OF DESIRE brings together work in various media, from abstraction to abstraction that incorporates representation. The artists in the exhibition, with different mediums, and materials, and with their individual practice, contribute to the conversation about a material/immaterial and an intrinsically inherent character of the human condition, that far from setting us apart from nature — is a consequent progression within the evolution of humankind. It is safe to say, a big portion of what we know as civilization is built upon that reality, our knowledge of it as much as our oblivion, and our struggles and failures to curb IT/ID = DESIRE. CURATOR-LED EXHIBITION WALK THRU at 5 PM and OPENING RECEPTION, 5:30 - 8 PM.

Bethany Czarnecki: A memory, eternal

A memory, eternal presents a dynamic collection of new works from Bethany Czarnecki.  Building upon her repertoire of transcendentally ambiguous, yet unmistakably female forms in saturated, polychromatic hues, Czarnecki’s newest paintings incorporate jewel tones and magnified bending shapes to create immersive sensory experiences.  Employing color as a carrier of emotion, the artist’s paintings explore the evocative relationships between light and shadow while conjuring a unique sense of place.

Chris Gallagher: Flight

In these new paintings, Chris Gallagher retains the vibrant bands of color he has employed in his paintings for decades, but here they are interspersed with structure, shadow and illusionistic depth. The resulting images appear to contain slices of flowing energy, with the addition of mysterious spaces of unknown scale.  The paintings in Flight were inspired by airline travel undertaken as the pandemic eased; Gallagher took photos from his plane seat during flights, capturing oblique fragments of the aircraft window along with unfamiliar stratospheric light flowing over the cabin surfaces. In each work, Gallagher has melded color, velocity and space into paintings that feel both tightly contained and spatially expansive.
